Growing those fancy daylilies that others will ooh and ahhh over is simple and fun.  You can even grow them yourself from seed.  I did this, purchasing seeds from the hybridizers, which is much cheaper (usually) than buying the daylily fans/root systems.  Shipping seeds is much cheaper too than having the plants shipped to you.
